Shortly after the death of Emperor Xian Feng in 1861, his concubine Cixi assumed control and ruled China as The Empress Dowager. Cixi was able to read, a rare skill at that time, and educated herself on domestic and foreign affairs, creating policies that would modernise China’s culture and economy. Recognising the importance of making international trade as easy as possible she instigated changes in customs, weights and measures that enabled the creation of a standardised ‘Dragon’ Trade Dollar.

Trade Dollars had been used to facilitate international trade since the ‘Spanish Dollars’ of the 15th Century, and the first ‘Dragon’ Trade dollars were struck in 1889 with the coin’s weight in English lettering sitting beneath a traditional Chinese dragon. Now, the Chinese Trade Dollar is reimagined for 2021 by The East India Company, our stunning Proof finish emphasising every detail of a new design that features a mighty dragon encircling the globe.

This limited-edition silver 1oz coin is presented in a luxurious presentation case along with a booklet and numbered certificate of authenticity.

Drawing it’s inspiration from the presence of Angels on Napoleon’s Death medal and his tomb at Les Invalids.

Napoleon Bonaparte was born on the island of Corsica in 1769. He is widely regarded as one of history’s great military minds, building an Empire that stretched across Europe before his defeat at Waterloo in 1815. He was exiled to St Helena, where he remained until his death in 1821.

While Napoleon’s military cunning is undisputable, it is also believed that he carried a symbol of good luck with him, his own personal guardian angel.

The French Angel Coin first appeared in the late 18th Century. Its designer became suspected of revolutionary tendencies and was sentenced to death but somehow escaped the guillotine. Allegedly he bribed his captors with an Angel Coin, and it became known as a lucky charm. 19th Century French Naval Captains would refuse to sail without one in their purse, and even Napoleon was not beyond belief in the lucky Angel Coin. According to folklore he carried one in his pocket throughout his reign, only to fatefully lose it the day before his final defeat at Waterloo.

Truth, the principle of being and acting truthfully. The allegorical personification of Truth is depicted as a glad-winged figure, holding a mirror in her right arm, symbolic of self-truth. Between her stands a child bearing a palm-branch, whom she comforts demonstrating the role of us all to protect the innocent.

Taking its inspiration from the allegorical figure of the virtue of Truth as depicted on the Victoria Memorial situated outside Buckingham Palace, our second design in the series features the words

VINCIT OMNIA VERITAS

Commemorating the 90th anniversary of the Sidney Harbour Bridge. The Sydney Harbour Bridge spans a width of just over 48m and a total length of 1,149m – uniting Sydney’s CBD and North Shore. 52,800 tonnes of steel to be exact, construction began in 1923 and was completed 8 years later having used 272000 litres of paint! The four, 89-meter-high, pylons of the bridge used around 17,000 cubic meters of granite blocks quarried near the town of Moruya and transported to Sydney using specially built ships! Not camera shy, this famous landmark is visible from almost every corner of the city and is one of the most photographed examples of architecture in the world.

The silver coin of the Czech Mint from the gift series with the motifs of the 12 zodiac signs will become not only beautiful, but also a valuable talisman for anyone born under the sign of Capricorn.

The constellation of Capricorn takes the form of a mythical creature with a goat's head and a fish's tail. According to ancient legend, this is the god of forests, fields, herds and shepherds, called Pan by the ancient Greeks and Faun by the Romans. He was immortalised in the sky by Zeus in thanks for his help in fighting the terrible monster Typhon, who wanted to destroy all the Olympians. Those born under the sign of Capricorn tend to be calm, patient and persistent. Their consistency goes hand in hand with ambition. Although their ambitions are not small, they have no problem achieving their goals thanks to iron discipline.

The unusual oval-shaped coin bears a coloured image of Capricorn on the reverse side. No photographs or computer graphics were used as a template for the colouring - the author of the coin, Asamat Baltaev, DiS., created an original watercolour painting. The relief in the background behind Capricorn presents a disc with a dozen zodiac signs. The composition of the reverse side is supplemented with the Latin inscription CAPRICORN and the corresponding astrological symbol. As the coins of the Czech Mint are issued with the foreign licence of the island of Niue, the obverse side bears its national emblem, the nominal value of ONE DOLLAR (NZD) and the year of issue 2021, all surrounded by twelve astrological signs.

The coin is stored in an elegant box.
