The Athenian Owl tetradrachm, renamed after the Greek goddess of wisdom, is arguably the most popular and recognized ancient coin. It represented about a week’s pay for ancient Greek soldiers. It is said that President Teddy Roosevelt carried an Athenian Owl as a lucky piece. The owl was associated with Athena very early on in archaic artworks and often depicted perching on her hand. Because of its strong connection with the goddess, the owl evolved into the Athenians’ own icon and graced a large variety of coins such as the tetradrachm from as early as the 5th century BC.

Since owls were believed to be foreseeing future events they became a representation of wisdom and intelligence. On the other hand, due to their nocturnal existence, these animals were equally linked to the occult and the Otherworld. Their mysterious habits, silent flight and haunting calls have earned them the reputation of superstitious and fearsome beasts in many parts of the world.

This ravishing masterpiece is kept in an antique look and impresses with its astonishing ultra high relief. A fascinating contribution to the history of coins.

Lady Bugs have been symbols of luck for over 1000 years! Legend says that the lady bug first gained its “Lucky” status when it kept landing on a man’s neck that was sentenced to be executed by the French guillotine. The man proclaimed his innocence and the Lady Bug kept landing on his neck to distract the executioner. It was seen as a divine intervention and spared the man’s life and later he was proven innocent.

The Lady Bug’s legend grew as European farmers prayed for help from pesky insects and Lady Bugs arrived shortly after. They were named after Virgin Mary and have since been a blessing for generations! Many tales about their famous spots have arisen as a way to tell their age or how many years of good luck you will have.

How can one ounce of cold, hard metal transcend the materialistic plane and evoke emotions of peacefulness, tranquility and contentment? Lullaby did just that in 2018 with the heart-warming sleeping boy coin displayed in a musical box playing a lullaby tune. One year later the anticipated twin coin illustrating a sleeping baby girl completes the whimisical numismatic set.

Any parent, grand-parent, uncle, aunt or godparent will cherrish this coin and immediately picture their little princess sleeping in the serene comfort and sanctuary of her mother’s arms.

The remarkable specifications of the Sleeping Girl match those of its predecessor with an antique surface finish and three cut-out hearts accompanies a frame bursting heart and balloon. Struck in smartminting, Lullaby is once again delivered in an elaborate, pink musical box* that displays the coin on a rotating pedestal in front of an oval mirror.

A perfect add-on or supplement to the new Lullaby coin is the Golden Dummy, part of CIT’s extensive special shapes series.

*please note: silver coin and musical box are not toys and should be kept out of reach of small children.

The unique silver coins with cut Czech crystal are the result of a combination of traditional Jablonec crafts - the Czech Mint's medal making and Preciosa's glassmaking, which is unparalleled in the world. The Tree of Life has become a popular motif of the Crystal Coin gift line. The coins were quickly sold out and, due to great interest, are being reissued - for the third time - this time with summer crystal leaves and selective gold plating.

Trees give us oxygen to breathe, fruit to strengthen us, wood to warm and protect us, and last but not least, they are a delight to the eye and soul. Like a healthy tree, each of us should have deep roots, a strong trunk and a rich crown. It is no wonder that trees belong to the most revered symbols in the world and that significant trees can be found in most cultures around the world. For example, the Bible tells of the tree of knowledge, the apple tree, which was a symbol of undefiled humanity and whose forbidden fruit was tasted by Eve. Chinese mythology speaks, for a change, of the peach tree - its roots are guarded by a dragon, its crown is protected by a phoenix, and a single fruit, borne every three thousand years, ensures man's immortality. In the Norse sagas there is the Yggdrasil - the ash tree that grows through all planes of existence and represents the universe itself. Whether their meaning is religious, philosophical or folkloric, all these trees are expressions of the ancient concept of the “tree of life“, which symbolises the unity and interconnectedness of all creation.

The medal maker Petra Brodská, DiS., has dedicated the reverse side of the coin to the traditional depiction of the tree of life in a circular composition, with the tree's leaves formed by cut crystal stones. The Czech-English inscription bears STROM ŽIVOTA – TREE OF LIFE. As the coins of the Czech Mint are issued with the license of a foreign issuer, which is the island of Niue, their obverse side bears its necessary attributes - the nominal value of 2 DOLLARS (NZD), the year of issue 2021, the name of Elizabeth II and the portrait of the Queen surrounded by decorative branches.

The coin is issued in a limited edition of 1000 pieces and can serve as an original gift for many occasions. It is placed in elegant packaging that can simply be transformed into a practical frame for display.
