CIT is very proud to release the 2nd edition of a coin honoring a very famous work of art! Fabergé Eggs are known as priceless treasures that were specifically made for Royalty and some of the wealthiest families in the world. Last year for the 100th anniversary of Peter Carl Fabergé’s passing, we brought out the first Fabergé Egg which sold out very quickly.

This time the coin is dedicated to the famous Rose Trellis Egg which was created in Saint Petersburg under the supervision of Peter Carl Fabergé. Much of the work was done by his workmaster Henrik Wigström in 1907. The Rose Trellis Egg was a gift from Tsar Nicholas II to his wife, Alexandra Fedorovna commemorating the birth of their son. Each of Fabergé’s Imperial eggs contained a surprise, to delight the tsarevich. This particular egg hid a diamond necklace and an ivory miniature portrait of Alexandra Fedorovna framed in diamonds — unfortunately, these items are now lost to history.

Peter Carl Fabergé is a registrated trade mark of Fabergeé (UK) Limited (www.faberge.com) and is used with the consent of Fabergé (UK) Limited.”

Monnaie de Paris pays tribute to the major masterpieces of French museums or having been painted in France.

The obverse represent Salvador Dali's famous masterpiece "The Persistence of Memory". The "Museum Masterpiece" stamp that defines this series has been added at the bottom right and blends with the work. In the background, the front of Beaubourg, where Salvador Dali has been the subject of several exhibitions, most recently in 2013, has been depicted. The name of the work and that of the artist also complete the decoration. The year 2021 appears on the left.

The reverse is common to the series. It depicts several views of many major French museums. An interior view of the Musée d’Orsay, on the top left, is recognizable by its distinctive clock. Beside that is a view of the façade of the Louvre as seen from the Napoleon courtyard where the pyramid is located. Below these two elements, a fresco shows the Hôtel Salé, which houses the Picasso Museum. The lower portion of the reverse side features a view of the façade of Hôtel Biron, the current Rodin Museum, and above, the famous Centre Pompidou stairway. The face value and the words “République Française” are also inscribed on the reverse side.

Demeter‘s connection with Virgo has survived even to modern days: Virgo is frequently depicted as a woman carrying grain, in the likeness of Demeter. While Demeter is technically not a virgin, in the myth she and Poseidon has a doughter - Persephone, similar to how Hera remains a perpetual virgin by bathing on special springs (curiously, like Hera, Demeter too has a role in the protection of marriages). Likewise, unlike Aphrodite, Demeter seems to have a more “chaste” form of fertility, being less of a sexual goddess and more focused on the nurturing aspects of the creation of new life. At any rate, Virgo does not stand for literal virginity as much as a spiritual one, forsaking desires for duty
