Born in Brixton, South London, in 1947, David Bowie began life as David Robert Jones. By the time he was 19 he had taken on his iconic name and was taking the first steps in one of the most innovative and influential careers in the history of sound and vision. His music electrified generations, and his perpetual state of reinvention kept music fans enthralled.

The third coin in our Music Legends collection celebrates rock’s definitive chameleon with a design inspired by an image of the singer from his time spent living and recording in Berlin. The inclusion of the lightning bolt motif from the Aladdin Sane era captures Bowie’s career journey, and the moment he finally put aside the props to emerge as an artist in his own right.

Available as limited-edition precious metal Proof editions and a standard Brilliant Uncirculated edition, the Brilliant Uncirculated edition is also available with three different slipcase covers, exclusively available from The Royal Mint and are a fitting tribute to the career of one of British music’s most enduring icons.

A new series dedicated to vases, which are considered the most expensive and famous in the whole world.

The first coin from this series “Chinese Dragon” features a small blue and white dragon porcelain vase that was sold for just about £5million – barely in 500 times more than it was estimated! The dragon vase dates back to the Qianlong period. It contains an intricate dragon motif and is beautifully decorated with bands of plantain leaves, waves, as well as a cloud-collar at the waisted neck and broad shoulders. The sides are densely painted with six meticulously rendered five-clawed dragons portrayed emerging from crashing waves and flying amid stylized clouds and flames.

A magnificent coin featuring a porcelain inset in the shape of a vase that is an incredibly fine piece of Chinese porcelain!

The unique gift series "Crystal Coin" is the result of a combination of traditional Jablonec crafts - the Czech Mint and Preciosa glassworks. The birth of a child is one of the most popular motifs that appear on silver coins with Czech crystal. The original gift for the cradle has been released several times - this time with the year 2022 and a brand new stork motif.

In ancient times, storks were an object of worship all over the world. The noble feathered creatures symbolised piety and justice in ancient Egypt, immortality in China and they brought new life in Europe. The Germanic pagans believed that it was not only frogs that lived in the marshes, which were a favourite delicacy of the stork, but also the souls of unborn children. The storks hunted these souls and placed them in the bodies of the future mothers. Weddings then took place at the celebration of the summer solstice at the end of June, and when the storks returned home from the warm lands in the spring, many newly married women were about to give birth. The notion of the stork bearing children was aided by the fact that he himself was a caring parent who devotedly took care of his offspring. The superstition has survived into modern times and has helped parents avoid delicate conversations with older siblings of newborn children for hundreds of years. Where did the baby come from? A stork brought it! Why is mommy lying in bed? A stork pecked her! The children were happy to accept that explanation…

The reverse side of the commemorative coin, which is the work of medal maker Petra Brodská, DiS., presents a combination of embossed relief, Czech crystal and traditional symbolism. The baby wrapped in a scarf is accompanied not only by a stork but also by a crow, which according to some legends carries baby girls to their parents. The bundle of good luck is carried by balloons, one of which is made of a crystal stone. As the coins of the Czech Mint are issued witrh the license of a foreign issuer, which is the island of Niue, their obverse side bears its necessary attributes - the nominal value of 2 DOLLARS (NZD), the year of issue 2022, the name of Elizabeth II and the portrait of the Queen, which is surrounded by a number of children motifs.

The coin is issued in a limited edition of 1000 pieces. It represents an original, yet traditional gift.
