Featuring a portrait in colour, this coin commemorates the historic coronation of King Charles III. Front-and-centre is the King wearing civilian clothes, signifying His Majesty’s everyday duties and role as a royal ambassador. The surrounding design is inspired by the gold aiguillette worn by the military, typically as part of ceremonial attire for special events, or in recognition of an honour or achievement. The intricate background pattern is inspired by the embroidery on the collar of the Scots Guard uniform.

Each coin in this issue features a portrait of the King on the obverse. Wellington designer and illustrator Stephen Fuller developed the effigy to be used on New Zealand commemorative coins, and it was personally approved by the King.

The king wears the Tudor crown - which was destroyed around 1640, but still occasionally appears on effigies of British monarchs. The reverse shows some of the royal regalia traditionally associated with the coronation ceremony. In the centre is St Edward's crown, traditionally used to crown English and British monarchs since the 13th century. Next to the crown are the sovereign's sceptres. On the left, the sovereign's sceptre with cross, representing the sovereign's temporal power. On the right, the sovereign's sceptre with dove: the dove symbolises the Holy Spirit and the king's spiritual role as head of the Anglican Church. Along the top edge is the text "THE CORORNATION OF KING CHARLES III" with the date on which the coronation will take place "6 MAY 2023" underneath. The death of Queen Elizabeth II caused a stir in the UK and abroad. She was on the throne for over 70 years, making her one of the longest-serving monarchs ever. Following her death, 73-year-old Charles III became king of the UK with immediate effect. On Saturday 6 May 2023, official coronation ceremonies will take place at Westminster Abbey, where all coronations since 1066 have been performed. Diamonds Are Forever design
In Diamonds Are Forever, released in 1971, Bond tracks SPECTRE boss Blofeld to the US where he discovers his evil nemesis is stockpiling diamonds to power a space-based laser weapon. Played by Sean Connery, 007 must neutralise the satellite and prevent the supervillain from carrying out his latest threat to global stability.

The coin’s reverse depicts a coloured illustration of James Bond, the charismatic Secret Service agent. Based on an official movie poster, the design also features a moon buggy 007 uses to escape across the Nevada Desert. Included on the reverse are the iconic gun barrel graphic from the franchise’s signature opening sequence, the famous 007 gun logo and the inscription ‘DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER’.
