The reverse of the coin depicts the five ladies portrayed in the previous issues of the series. Starting from the top and moving clockwise: Venus, Mona Lisa, Girl with a Pearl Earring, Lady with an Ermine and Young Girl in Green. The five ladies are reunited in a harmonious and sinuous composition, characterized by a beautiful coloration and by Power Coin's iconic Micromosaic technology. The design also includes the inscription: "MMXXII" – the year of issue in Roman numerals. The obverse of the coin features the Coat of Arms of Palau, surrounded by a micro tiles frame with a circular motif and the inscriptions: "GREAT MICROMOSAIC PASSION SPECIAL", "REPUBLIC OF PALAU" – the country of issue and "20$" – the face value.

Reproduction of the painting "Winter" by Vilhelms Purvītis, using colour print.

This release is dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of the painter, Vilhelms Purvītis.

Vilhelms Purvītis (1872-1945) was one of the key figures of Latvian visual art in the first half of the 20th century, and the founder and modernizer of Latvian landscape painting.

The obverse features a colorized reproduction of the painting “Winter," with elements such as the majestic lacy birch trees, the glistening lake, and the overcast winter sky. The painting has been transferred to the coin using glaze, texture and mirror surface, of varying intensity.

The reverse shows the plaster model of the same painting with several types of surfaces, worked in different ways, to a more or less intensified glaze effect.

In England the peony is sometimes referred to as the ‘rose royale’ and the Chinese word for peony means ‘the most beautiful’. Peonies have been painted by many European artists and the opulent beauty of the peony has long been a popular subject in Chinese and Japanese literature, painting and decoration. A Chinese legend has it that a capricious empress commanded all the flowers in her garden to blossom at the same time. All acquiesced apart from the peony. Annoyed by the flower’s refusal, the empress banished it to the coldest reaches of the empire, yet despite the inhospitable environment, the peony thrived. The empress, duly impressed, allowed the peony to return, declaring it the ‘queen of all flowers’.

In 2020, Monnaie de Paris began the series “History of US Independency" with the arrival of La Fayette in Boston.

This year, it's the Battle of Cowpens medal that will be honoured.

The Battle of Cowpens, in South Carolina, took place on January 17th, 1781. It was a crushing victory for the armed forces led by General Daniel Morgan against the British, led by Banastre Tarleton, resulting in the capture, disappearance, or death of around 75% of the British forces.

This first military success, which led to victory at Yorktown and to the Declaration of Independence, was the subject of three commemorative medals decided by Congress: a gold one awarded to General Morgan, and two silver ones awarded to William Washington, commander of the cavalry, and John Eagar Howard, commander of the infantry. They were decided during the time when Benjamin Franklin and D. Humphrey were negotiating in Paris the alliance with France that would lead to the Treaty of Paris signed in September 1783.

The obverse, illustrating Daniel Morgan's Victory, depicts him full-length, about to be crowned by an Indian queen, an allegory of America; a female figure wearing a short breastplate and a feathered headdress. The acronym RF and the yeardate were added to the obverse.

The reverse shows the General-in-Chief leading the charge on horseback, followed by his troops on foot and overthrowing the fleeing English adversary. It is signed by the engraver Augustin Dupré, who was the general engraver of Monnaie de Paris at the time. The face value and hallmarks were added to the reverse.
