The Athenian Owl tetradrachm, renamed after the Greek goddess of wisdom, is arguably the most popular and recognized ancient coin. It represented about a week’s pay for ancient Greek soldiers. It is said that President Teddy Roosevelt carried an Athenian Owl as a lucky piece. The owl was associated with Athena very early on in archaic artworks and often depicted perching on her hand. Because of its strong connection with the goddess, the owl evolved into the Athenians’ own icon and graced a large variety of coins such as the tetradrachm from as early as the 5th century BC.

Since owls were believed to be foreseeing future events they became a representation of wisdom and intelligence. On the other hand, due to their nocturnal existence, these animals were equally linked to the occult and the Otherworld. Their mysterious habits, silent flight and haunting calls have earned them the reputation of superstitious and fearsome beasts in many parts of the world.

This ravishing masterpiece is kept in an antique look and impresses with its astonishing ultra high relief. A fascinating contribution to the history of coins.

Over the many years that the Tiffany Art series has been in existence, numerous advances in minting technology have allowed the series to elevate to new levels every year. For 2021, CIT is proud to introduce what we believe is a Quantum leap forward for this award-winning series!
We are pleased to present, Metropolis. The first in the Tiffany Art series to feature famous urban landscapes. The first city to be honored is the City of Love – Paris.

The reverse shows the French capital from a bird’s-eye view highlighting selected buildings like the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, and the Arc de Triomphe. You can easily lose yourself in the highly detailed huge road network thanks to the enhanced smartminting® technology. The obverse pictures one of most ornate and extravagant bridges of Paris, the Pont Alexandre III. With its prominent sculptures and elements this bridge is classified as a French “monument historique”. The Tiffany Art glass that the series is known for is done in a completely new way as you see it wind through the city as a representation of the River Seine. The way the turquoise colored glass appears to literally divide the coin in half is a ground breaking achievement of numismatic technology!

Metropolis Paris – l’amour toujours.

The duality of the wolf is part of what draws us to it, and the yin and the yang of its existence is what this 99.99% pure silver coin conveys. For centuries, the highly intelligent and social species has been feared and unfairly maligned as the villain in children’s stories. Yet it is that same hunting instinct that makes the elusive wolf an essential part of its ecosystem, where it helps maintain the balance between flora and fauna, predator and prey.

The circular reverse design by Claude Thivierge features a contrasting “yin and yang”-like representation of the grey wolf (Canis lupus). Two wolves are positioned chin-to-chin to illustrate the tight social bonds that exist between pack members and each wolf has fixed its gaze on the viewer. Gold and black rhodium plating perfectly splits this engraved image into two opposite but complementary halves. The obverse features the gold-plated effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.

France, renowned as one of the most romantic countries in the world, has an unequalled appeal to the world. Romanticism comes from the Medieval French word for Romance(meaning Legend or novel), from which the word "romantic" is derived. French roses are also symbols of love. The flowers are bright, so enough to impress the girl's heart, let alone a beautiful confession with bright roses, love is coming.
