This release is dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of the painter, Vilhelms Purvītis.

Vilhelms Purvītis (1872-1945) was one of the key figures of Latvian visual art in the first half of the 20th century, and the founder and modernizer of Latvian landscape painting.

The obverse features a colorized reproduction of the painting “Winter," with elements such as the majestic lacy birch trees, the glistening lake, and the overcast winter sky. The painting has been transferred to the coin using glaze, texture and mirror surface, of varying intensity.

The reverse shows the plaster model of the same painting with several types of surfaces, worked in different ways, to a more or less intensified glaze effect.

The Perth Mint opened on 20 June 1899 at the height of the Western Australian gold rush. The coin’s obverse portrays the Dan Thorne effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, and the monetary denomination.
