THE COLOSSEUM, HISTORIC CENTER OF ROME, THE PROPERTY OF THE HOLY SEE LOCATED IN THIS CITY BENEFITING FROM EXTRATERRITORIALITY RIGHTS AND SAINT PAUL OUTSIDE THE WALLS
A true open-air museum, the historic center of Rome offers an immersion in more than two millennia of history, including many remains from Antiquity. Among other things, the Colosseum is a true testimony to Roman engineering and architecture. Able to accommodate up to 50,000 spectators, it was the scene of shows, including the famous gladiator fights, wild animal hunts and reenactments of naval battles. The historic center of Rome has suffered many disasters such as the Great Fire of Rome in 64 or the earthquake of 1349, but the city has always recovered and rebuilt.
On the front, in the foreground, a Roman murmillo, equipped with a shield and a sword, confronting a lion. This scene recalls the "spectacles" that took place in the Colosseum, where gladiators fought wild beasts to entertain the public. In the background, the left part of the Colosseum in detailed view and the right part in schematic outline of the structure to evoke its construction/reconstruction.
The reverse is common to all coins in the UNESCO series of this year 2025. It represents the terrestrial globe with the parallels and meridians on the left side and the inscriptions of major sites classified as UNESCO World Heritage on the right side. These inscriptions are as if engraved in stone, which echoes the Rosetta Stone. The left side of the globe is surrounded by the UNESCO logo as well as the marking "World Heritage". The face value is inscribed on the left side of the globe, blending perfectly with the parallels and meridians.

For almost a thousand years, each monarch of Britain, and later New Zealand, has been crowned in a special ceremony months after their accession. A coronation is an important day in the history of the nation, a vibrant shared experience for the public, and an occasion of deep personal significance in the life of the monarch. A 1oz silver proof coin has been created to commemorate this momentous occasion.
Celebrates the historic accession and coronation of King Charles III
Features the effigy of King Charles III on the obverse
Reverse design features a colour portrait of the King
Minted from 1oz of 0.999 silver
Designed by Fuller Design, Wellington, New Zealand
Worldwide limited mintage of 1,150.
Featuring a portrait in colour, this coin commemorates the historic coronation of King Charles III. Front-and-centre is the King wearing civilian clothes, signifying His Majesty’s everyday duties and role as a royal ambassador. The surrounding design is inspired by the gold aiguillette worn by the military, typically as part of ceremonial attire for special events, or in recognition of an honour or achievement. The intricate background pattern is inspired by the embroidery on the collar of the Scots Guard uniform.
Each coin in this issue features a portrait of the King on the obverse. Wellington designer and illustrator Stephen Fuller developed the effigy to be used on New Zealand commemorative coins, and it was personally approved by the King.

The 2023 $5 Siren 2oz Silver Proof Coin, our latest nautical masterpiece, celebrates the mythical sea siren - a creature of deadly beauty. The Siren originates in ancient Greek mythology - a wicked temptress who takes the form of a half-woman, half-bird. The Roman poet Ovid wrote that the Sirens were once the human companions of Persephone, the daughter of the goddess Demeter. When Persephone was stolen by Hades, the God of the underworld, Demeter turned the Sirens into birds as punishment. The legend of the Siren, as the creatures who lured sailors to their deaths with the irresistible sweetness of their song, was further disseminated through the works of Homer, when the hero Odysseus faced them in his long journey back to Ithaca. In modern times, the Siren is often portrayed as a stunning, but lethal, mermaid – the quintessential temptress capable of luring hardened sailors to their death with her hypnotic song. It is this desirable denizen of the deep that has been brilliantly depicted on the reverse of this spectacularly struck Niue legal tender coin.
