Thus began a long tradition that was emulated worldwide. The National Lottery, founded in 1934, organises lotteries, betting and games of chance in the public interest. With a small stake, anyone can play and the proceeds support not only the winners, but also countless social projects and charities.

State Visits have always been important to Finland when it comes to diplomatic relations between the states and the execution of foreign policy. Hundreds of years ago, state visits came in the form of marriages between royal families, which could lead to military alliances and decision making in politics. After World War I, when many new nation states emerged in Europe, state visits required a new appearance. Nevertheless, many traditions, such as ceremonial receptions, joint public appearances, dinners and cultural events have been maintained.

Mdina, the ancient capital of Malta, is perched on elevated ground at the centre of the island and traces its origins to at least the 8th century BC. Originally known as Melite during Roman times, the city's defensive perimeter was retrenched by the Byzantines. Notably, it withstood a Moorish siege in 1429 and served as a military post during the Great Siege of 1565. Mdina's importance declined after Valletta was built. Under British rule, its fortifications were decommissioned. Today, Mdina is a preserved historical city, housing museums, archives, and heritage sites, and is listed on UNESCO's tentative World Heritage list.
