As we focus our attention on commemorating the reign of Queen Elizabeth II (1952-2022), the Mint will not be issuing any 2023-dated Canadian circulation coins featuring both the traditional reverse designs and an obverse featuring Queen Elizabeth II.
Each coin’s obverse is double-dated (“1952-2022”) to commemorate the reign of Queen Elizabeth II.

The 2023 Annual Sets contain specially selected commemorative coins that celebrate icons, events and anniversaries of British cultural and historic significance. Serving as a physical representation of The Royal Mint’s dedication to its craft, innovation and quality, these sets are a highly anticipated release that marks another chapter in numismatic history each year. This year’s Annual Sets notably feature Martin Jennings’ definitive effigy of His Majesty The King for the first time.

The technical characteristics of the coins, having legal tender in the territory of the Republic of San Marino and in that of the Member States of the European Community that have adopted the Euro, are those established by the Council of the European Union for Euro coins. The artistic characteristics are determined as follows:

- 2 EURO Obverse: the portrait of Saint Marino, detail of a painting by Giovan Battista Urbinelli;
- 1 EURO Obverse: the Second Tower;
- 50 Eurocent Obverse: the portrait of Saint Marino, detail of a painting by Emilio Retrosi;
- 20 Eurocent Obverse: the Three Towers (from right Guaita, Cesta and Montale);
- 10 Eurocent Obverse: the façade of the Church and Convent of San Francesco;
- 5 Eurocent Obverse: the Church of the Capuchins;
- 2 Eurocent Obverse: the Porta del Paese, also known as Porta del Locho or Porta San Francesco;
- 1 Eurocent Obverse: the coat of arms of the Republic;

Numibox image dedicated to the Statue of Liberty, emblem of independence and sovereignty. This iconic monument, made of Carrara marble by the sculptor Stefano Galletti, depicts a young woman advancing triumphantly, with a turreted crown on her head, a symbol of strength, freedom and autonomy, which have characterized the Republic of San Marino for centuries.

The third series shows, on the €2 and €1 coins, a portrait of HSH Prince Albert II. HSH Prince Albert’s monogram is depicted on the 10, 20 and 50-cent coins. The coat of arms of the Sovereign Princes of Monaco is the main feature of the design on the 1, 2 and 5-cent coins.

Bulgaria has chosen three designs for their national sides of the euro coins. All the coins also depict the 12 stars of the European flag.

The €2 coin features a portrait of Saint Paisius of Hilendar, a key figure of the Bulgarian national revival and author of Istoriya Slavyanobolgarskaya (Slavo-Bulgarian History). The design includes the year of issuance, the inscription “БЪЛГАРИЯ” (the country’s name in Bulgarian) and the word “ЕВРО” (“EURO”) in Cyrillic script.
The inscription “БОЖЕ ПАЗИ БЪЛГАРИЯ” (“GOD PROTECT BULGARIA”) is written twice, both normally and in reverse, around the edge of the coin.

The €1 coin depicts Ivan of Rila, the patron saint of Bulgaria and founder of the Rila Monastery. He is shown holding a cross and a scroll. The design includes the year of issuance, the inscription “БЪЛГАРИЯ” (the country’s name in Bulgarian) and the word “ЕВРО” (“EURO”) in Cyrillic script.

The 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 cent coin features a relief image of the Madara Horseman – an eighth-century rock carving and UNESCO World Heritage Site. The horseman faces right, spearing a lion – a powerful symbol from Bulgaria’s past.

The design also includes the year of issuance, the inscription “БЪЛГАРИЯ” (the country’s name in Bulgarian) and the word “СТОТИНКИ” (“CENT”) in Cyrillic script.
