National Lottery Bruges, the birthplace of the Lottery, is where the first modern lottery was held on the Market Square in 1441, with the aim of financing common needs. Thus began a long tradition that was emulated worldwide. The National Lottery, founded in 1934, organises lotteries, betting and games of chance in the public interest. With a small stake, anyone can play and the proceeds support not only the winners, but also countless social projects and charities.

Feature: Federal state (Land) of Saarland

Description: The design shows the Saarschleife bend in the Saar river, reduced to the key features of the motif of the meandering river, which characterises the hilly landscape. Groups of trees depicted along the course of the river symbolise the forested landscape around the picturesque Saarschleife. The bird’s-eye perspective means that the landmark natural waterway is seen embedded in the surrounding hills, which reach off into the distance. The inscription “Saarland” is positioned low down in the foreground, in order to not disturb the landscape’s sense of calmness and light. The upper half of the coin’s inner circle also features on the left the mark of the artist, Frankfurt-based Carsten Wolff, and on the right the letter “X” as placeholder for the mint mark of the respective mint (“A”, “D”, “F”, “G” or “J”). The lower half features the inscription “SAARLAND”, Germany’s issuing country code “D” and the year of issue, “2025”. The coin’s outer ring bears the 12 stars of the European flag.

Mdina, the ancient capital of Malta, is perched on elevated ground at the centre of the island and traces its origins to at least the 8th century BC. Originally known as Melite during Roman times, the city's defensive perimeter was retrenched by the Byzantines. Notably, it withstood a Moorish siege in 1429 and served as a military post during the Great Siege of 1565. Mdina's importance declined after Valletta was built. Under British rule, its fortifications were decommissioned. Today, Mdina is a preserved historical city, housing museums, archives, and heritage sites, and is listed on UNESCO's tentative World Heritage list.
