The 2023 Annual Sets contain specially selected commemorative coins that celebrate icons, events and anniversaries of British cultural and historic significance. Serving as a physical representation of The Royal Mint’s dedication to its craft, innovation and quality, these sets are a highly anticipated release that marks another chapter in numismatic history each year. This year’s Annual Sets notably feature Martin Jennings’ definitive effigy of His Majesty The King for the first time.

As an era comes to a close, the new effigy of His Majesty King Charles III will assume its place on the obverse for Australia's legal tender coins. in keeping centuries-old tradition, as the successor, the effigy of His Majesty facing left. the opposite direction from his predecessor.

Latvia is composed of five historical regions of the Latvian nation: Vidzeme, Latgale, Kurzeme, Zemgale, and Sēlija. Sēlija was referenced in historical records as early as the 13th century, yet it was not until 2021, with its formal inclusion in the Law on Historical Regions of Latvia, that Sēlija was defined as a distinct cultural and historical region. The carmine-white-moss green flag of Sēlija and the coat of arms of the historical region were approved in 2023. The coat of arms, which is featured on the reverse of the coin, has been crafted by heraldic artist Edgars Sims. Much like the lion of Kurzeme and the elk of Zemgale, the coat of arms of Sēlija incorporates elements of the visual identity of the Duchy of Kurzeme and Zemgale, a symbol that has been portrayed in two distinct forms over the centuries – both with an elk and with a stag. The State Heraldry Commission has developed the basic principles for designing the Sēlija coat of arms, which, in contrast to other coats of arms, was crafted through a collaborative effort with the local communities, municipalities, and civic organisations of Sēlija. Embellishing it is a majestic animal, its crown adorned with elaborate antlers and its head held high – a silver stag set against a red background.

The Sēlija coat of arms marks the conclusion of the series of 2 euro commemorative coins, each honouring one of Latvia's five historical regions.

On February 6, 1952, King George VI of England died of illness, and Princess Elizabeth, who was visiting Africa, succeeded to the throne at the age of 25. It can be said that the 96-year-old Queen has completely dedicated her life to the British royal family. In the hearts of many people, she not only witnessed history, but her experience is a living history book.

1977 is the 25th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's accession to the throne, also known as the Silver Jubilee. The Queen was greeted by an enthusiastic crowd as she toured the country. On June 7 that year, the Queen and her husband took the royal golden carriage from Buckingham Palace to St Paul's Cathedral for the 25th anniversary of the Queen's accession to the throne. She delivered a speech, reaffirming her promise when she was enthroned, that she would do her duty and fulfill her promise for the rest of her life. She said although it was a promise she made in her green years, she never regretted it and never broke her promise.

Local time on September 8, 2022, Queen Elizabeth II died at the age of 96 at the Balmoral Castle, Scotland, ending her brilliant life.

The reverse design is taken from five portraits that have appeared on British coins since the accession of Queen Elizabeth II on February 6, 1952. These portraits have been described as the definitive British coin portraits. This is a milestone. Above the portrait is the St. Edward's Crown worn by Queen Elizabeth II at her coronation, the most important symbol of royal power.

The third series shows, on the €2 and €1 coins, a portrait of HSH Prince Albert II. HSH Prince Albert’s monogram is depicted on the 10, 20 and 50-cent coins. The coat of arms of the Sovereign Princes of Monaco is the main feature of the design on the 1, 2 and 5-cent coins.
