“Raili & Reima Pietilä” -two of the most influential architects in Finland during the 1960’s.Raili (1926 – 2021) and Reima (1923 – 1993) Pietilä were architects in Finland during the 1960’s. Raili Paatelainen graduated as an architect in 1956 at the Helsinki University of Technology. Reima Pietilä graduated in 1953 when he was almost 30 years old. Raili and Reima started working at the same agency: their first joint project was the Dipoli Student Union Building of the Helsinki University of Technology, designed in 1961. They got married in 1963.
This 2 Euro Coin has been exclusively designed by Pekka Rytkönen, as a tribute to Raili and Reima Pietilä. On the obverse, one of their most important buildings: Dipoli, now in hands of Aalto University but originally owned by the Helsinki University of Technology. Here, the Mercury Staff is visible, and also the initials FI and the year 2026 are depicted here. On the right the initial R, referring to Pekka Rytkönen. The reverse shows the national side of the 2 Euro Coin.
The Finland 2 euro “Raili & Reima Pietilä” 2026 BU Quality is placed in a coincard. On the obverse, we see the Hervanta Central Axis, an activity centre designed by Raili and Reima Pietilä. The reverse shows a picture of the duo at work.
