Shortly after the death of Emperor Xian Feng in 1861, his concubine Cixi assumed control and ruled China as The Empress Dowager. Cixi was able to read, a rare skill at that time, and educated herself on domestic and foreign affairs, creating policies that would modernise China’s culture and economy. Recognising the importance of making international trade as easy as possible she instigated changes in customs, weights and measures that enabled the creation of a standardised ‘Dragon’ Trade Dollar.

Trade Dollars had been used to facilitate international trade since the ‘Spanish Dollars’ of the 15th Century, and the first ‘Dragon’ Trade dollars were struck in 1889 with the coin’s weight in English lettering sitting beneath a traditional Chinese dragon. Now, the Chinese Trade Dollar is reimagined for 2021 by The East India Company, our stunning Proof finish emphasising every detail of a new design that features a mighty dragon encircling the globe.

This limited-edition silver 1oz coin is presented in a luxurious presentation case along with a booklet and numbered certificate of authenticity.

The anchor has a broad meaning. It symbolizes stability, solidity and protection, as it keeps a ship safely in the water and prevents it from drifting away. It stands for stability in difficult times, but also for the interplay of a thirst for adventure and the desire for a safe return. It is often worn by people who have a connection to the sea or who associate a longing for freedom with a safe harbor. In maritime circles and beyond, the anchor is used as a lucky charm that symbolizes protection from danger.

The coin impresses with its exciting combination of different qualities. Black proof finish in the background, partial gold plating of the anchor and other matt design elements make this coin something very special.

Leo in the Zodiac Goddesses Coin Series, embodying power, confidence, and radiant energy through a bold fantasy interpretation. Minted in 1 oz of pure silver with a 40 mm diameter and a flawless proof finish, the coin showcases a high-definition design of Leo as a fiery goddess accompanied by her majestic lion. Issued as legal tender by Ghana, the obverse features the Coat of Arms framed by the zodiac calendar. This striking release merges strength and elegance into a powerful collectible. Available now at distributors worldwide.

The reverse features a dynamic, full-color depiction of Leo as a commanding goddess holding a flaming staff, accompanied by a powerful lion. The name “Leo” is part of the design. Encircling the scene is a detailed ring with all zodiac symbols, reinforcing the complete astrological cycle.

The obverse side of the coin features the Coat of Arms of the Republic of Ghana at its center. Surrounding the Coat of Arms is a complete zodiac calendar, with all twelve zodiac icons arranged in a circular pattern. The inscriptions include: “REPUBLIC OF GHANA” (the issuing country), “2026” (the year of issue), and “FIVE CEDIS” (the face value).

The Zodiac is an ancient system of astrology dividing the sky into twelve segments, each linked to a constellation and calendar period. These signs—Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces—are believed to shape personality, behavior, and life direction. Originating from Babylonian astronomy and refined by the Greeks, the zodiac continues to be an influential framework for interpreting human nature and cosmic influences across various cultures.

Leo, the fifth sign of the zodiac (July 23–August 22), is ruled by the Sun and symbolized by the Lion. Confident, creative, and passionate, Leos naturally command attention wherever they go. They are born leaders, driven by a deep desire to inspire and uplift others. Their warmth and generosity make them loyal friends, while their determination and pride fuel their pursuit of greatness. Like the Sun, Leos illuminate every space they enter with brilliance and vitality.
